If life has taught me one thing, it’s that you can do things correctly and still fail. Again. And again. However, you only truly fail when you define what failure is and have it relate to your circumstance. If you reach at least one person, and somehow improve their day, or even better; improve their life in some meaningful way, I would not necessarily define one’s collection of varied shortcomings as a failure, in of themselves.
On the contrary, it is in facing these events that define who we are, and what we’re really made of. We have a choice if we are to be able to look to our trials in this life with defeat or something that which we have overcome. This is purely up to the individual. Whether one looks back on life with as having had any degree of success is truly in the eye of the beholder.
Does success equate to owning a multi-billion dollar corporation like Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos, or John D. Rockefeller? Does success equate to owning more cars than Jay Leno, more shoes than J. Lo? Some might say so. What of those who simply came into this life, and despite all odds defeated their addiction to alcohol? Or cigarettes? Or junk food? Or social media? Or were able to raise a child, who despite the lack of proper environment, turned out alright? What about those who were able to face the onslaught of threats of violence online, who had the courage to speak the truth, and perhaps reach at least one receptive ear so as to render a cold cruel heart into one of warmth and kindness? Could you not say that this person had lived a life well spent?
What could perhaps be a better way to live, than by one of justice and merit, in seeking to help others and improve lives, even if it means taking the risk of making oneself a social pariah to do so?
In those time when doubt comes creeping in, remember that your success in life is not always determined by consistent growth and success, but the manner in which you look upon the successes and also the failures, and how you react to them.
